When Kerianne came to me wanting to have her newborn session outside I was taken by surprise because I had never seen someone do this before. But that made me all the more interested and excited to capture this family!
They picked a beach near their home and then we finished the session in the woods next to their house. Couldn’t have come up with a more perfect first newborn session for myself to do. They even decided they wanted to have Hazel lay on the seaweed.
Tips for newborn sessions are similar to a normal family session: making sure that baby is well rested and fed (along with yourself). I do suggest picking a time that goes the best with your schedule. And keeping things as flexible as possible.
I usually schedule these ahead of the birth so I know general time that you may want the session but once baby is born is when we discuss what days would work best. I highly recommend giving yourself at least three days to adjust.
Remember that newborn is up to one month and you can even take photos beyond that if the first month is still too much. When I had my newborn photos done I had them on one day and switched to the next because I was such a zombie.
Also note that you can take a break during the session to feed the babe- I can take photos of that if you wish and you can tell me if you want them private. Anything you want documented in this time is up to you. And I am here for you.
Now to talk about PPD- if you are experiencing any feeling of sadness, overwhelm, and stress then please talk to someone. I have had friends who have experienced this and while it may be common- it is not normal. Get help.
